For as long as I can remember I have been amazed by the inner beauty of monkeys. I do not know if its in the stride of their walk or the beauty of their smile. I always tell myself and others that when ever I graduate and start my career, I am going to purchase my own personal monkey. I would love to be the mother of one of my favorite animals and to be able to take part in their life.
Monkeys are known as primates who come in all different sizes. They are a group of furred mammals who use their feet much like they use their hands. A significant detail about them is that they are classified in the same suborder as humans. Because of their similarity to humans they are often used as experiments of science. History states that they are inhabitant to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America, Africa, and Asia. The smallest monkeys are about 6 inches (15cm), while the longest can be as long as 60 centimeters. The continent of Africa holds the largest monkeys which are known as baboons.
In several places around the globe monkeys are worshiped and seen as superior. Also as part of the zodiac the monkey is the 9th in the 12th year cycle of animals that emerge. It was also a monkey who was first sent to space.
Although this is true of monkeys, everyone does not see them the same as I do. Monkeys are also used for food in certain areas of Africa and Asia, and there is also a lot of controversy about them being used as experiments in laboratories. I am amongst the number of people who believe that this is only harming the monkey's culture and it very brutal to it's lifespan. There are also people who agree that the experiments of monkeys have led to vital knowledge of humans and avoidance of harm to humans.
Although this may be true I also feel that we are only helping increase the rate of extinction amongst these adorable, intellectual, free- spirited, human-like mammals.
